The Problem

The Student Summit experience was largely transactional and sponsor-driven:

  • Focused on event logistics and exhibitor visibility

  • Limited guidance for students exploring careers

  • No clear connection between academic majors and real-world roles

User gap:

Students didn’t just need information - they needed context, clarity, and direction.

Key Insight

This wasn’t a content gap, it was a guidance gap.

Students were asking:

  • “What can I actually do with my major?”

  • “What does this industry look like in real life?”

  • “Where do I start?”

The experience needed to shift from:

Information → Guided discovery

What I Did

Designed a Guided Content Framework

Structured the experience around a clear journey:

  • Discover → Understand → Prepare → Act

  • Help students explore careers

  • Build understanding of the industry

  • Provide tools to take next steps

Turned passive browsing into an active, guided experience

Built an Interactive Career Discovery Tool

  • “Choose Your Major” dropdown maps majors → real roles

  • Surfaces relevant career paths instantly

  • Bridges the gap between education and application

Helps users answer: “What does this mean for me?”

  • Integrated career resources (resume, interview prep, job board)

  • Created a clear path from exploration → opportunity

  • Reinforced TAPPI as a long-term career resource

Extended Platform Capabilities

  • Custom-coded interactive components within Cvent

  • Used AI-assisted development to prototype and refine quickly

  • Established reusable patterns for future experiences

Expanded what the platform could support without rebuilding it
